COMPARISON WITH PTFE

Powerbone polymer membranes make a great alternative for clinicians familiar with PTFE. Both handle in a similar way and require fixation due to their stiffer nature. Unlike PTFE Powerbone Polymer membrane resorbs completely and does not require a second procedure for removal. 

COMPARISON WITH COLLAGEN

Clinicians familiar with resorbing collagen membranes should familiarise themselves with the key material differences before using resorbing polymer membranes.  The polymers used make handling quite different and create a relative stiffness which means fixation with pins or membrane tacks is recommended.

When these differences are overcome clinicians can enjoy significant performance gains. Compared to collagen, synthetic dental membranes:

• Do not stick to instruments.

• Do not collapse giving excellent space maintenance.

• Do not degrade in the presence of salivary enzymes providing excellent exposure resilience.

• Offer prolonged resorption with a barrier function of 12–16 weeks.
