ONE ABUTMENT – ONE TIME PROTOCOL

Attaching or disassembling prosthetic parts for impression taking or stability measurements during the healing period carries a risk to soft tissue profiles and can if repeated lead to bone loss. This knowledge led to the “one-abutment–one-time” protocol as a minimally invasive prosthetic method whereby placement of the definitive abutment is done at the time of surgery(1).  Other advantages of this treatment may include a faster treatment time, delivery of a provisional restoration at the time of implant placement, and a reduction in the number of appointments(2).
